Device protection without promotions

How gambling-blocking software covers your devices

Gambling-blocking software can restrict access to gambling websites and apps on compatible devices. This checklist helps you record coverage, install through an official provider and maintain protection when software or devices change.

The short answer

Cover every compatible device, then maintain the record

List every phone, tablet and computer you personally use. Check the provider's current official compatibility page, install through its official route and confirm protection only through the provider's status screen or support guidance. Never test the software by opening a live gambling website.

What blocking software adds

GAMSTOP is a self-exclusion scheme for online gambling businesses licensed in Great Britain. A bank gambling block adds payment friction where the bank identifies a gambling transaction. Device software has a different job: it aims to restrict access to gambling websites or apps on the devices where it is installed.

That separate layer can matter when a site is marketed as a No GamStop casino. The label does not prove that a site is covered by blocking software or establish its regulatory position.

The UK Gambling Commission and GamCare both present blocking software as an additional protection rather than a complete solution. Keep the boundaries clear: installing an app does not create GAMSTOP coverage, guarantee that every gambling service is blocked or replace confidential human support.

Gambling-specific software and general controls

01

Gambling-specific software

Designed to restrict gambling websites or apps. Current compatibility, cost, support and privacy treatment depend on the provider and platform.

02

General or parental controls

Designed to restrict broader categories of content. They may need configuration and should not be assumed to match a gambling-specific provider's coverage.

03

Network-level controls

A broadband or network provider may offer additional restrictions, but these do not prove that a personally used mobile-data connection or another device is covered.

This guide does not rank products. Choose only after checking the exact device, official support information, current access terms and privacy notice. A product name here is an evidence example, not an endorsement.

Make a privacy-safe device inventory

Record enough information to find a missing protection layer, but not enough to expose a device or account. Do not store serial numbers, device identifiers, passwords, recovery codes or provider credentials in this worksheet.

Install and confirm protection safely

  1. Start at the provider's official website. Avoid adverts, copied download pages and unverified app links.
  2. Match the exact operating-system family. Check the current minimum version and installation route before creating an account or paying.
  3. Read the access and privacy terms. Record cost, renewal, support and data treatment from the provider's current pages.
  4. Follow the official installation steps. Grant only the permissions the provider explains as necessary for that platform.
  5. Use the provider's own status check. Confirm the app or service says protection is active without visiting a gambling website.
  6. Repeat for every device. One protected phone does not establish that a tablet, computer or replacement device is covered.
Do not test against a live gambling site or app. If the provider status is unclear, contact its official support team and strengthen your other protection layers while the issue is resolved.

Protect updates, resets and new devices

Coverage can become uncertain when a device is replaced, reset, repaired or moved to a different operating-system version. A new device should enter the protection record before normal browsing or app installation begins.

Current gambling-blocking software evidence examples
Provider exampleCurrent provider-reported informationWhat remains to verify
GambanIts current product page lists Android, iOS or iPadOS, macOS and Windows support, subscription options and a seven-day trial.Location-specific access, current price, exact version support, privacy and support terms.
BetBlockerIts current website describes the service as free, without registration and available across multiple devices.Exact device support, current app-store requirements, privacy treatment and support route.
Current access information conflicts. GAMSTOP's practical-tools page describes Gamban and BetBlocker as free for UK residents. Gamban's 31 March 2026 TalkBanStop closure notice says Gamban moved to subscription access in England and Scotland while remaining free in Wales. The current Gamban product page also displays subscription options. This guide does not collapse those statements into a generic UK price claim. The sources were rechecked on 20 August 2026 and still disagree, so confirm the location-specific route before relying on either description.

GamCare's blocking-software directory is useful for discovering options and broad operating-system families. It also says that some products are free and some require payment. Treat that directory as a starting point, then confirm every product field on the provider's current official pages.

State limits without creating a loophole guide

No single product can be presented as complete protection. The safe response to missing or uncertain coverage is to contact provider support and add other barriers. This page does not explain removal, disabling, evasion or ways to identify gaps through gambling.

Layer the protection after TalkBanStop

TalkBanStop formally concluded in March 2026. The principle behind it remains useful: combine emotional support, formal self-exclusion and practical blocking tools. GamCare's June 2026 evaluation reports that people using more than one element described stronger support than those relying on a single intervention.

Get support when software is not enough

Blocking software can create time and distance from gambling, but it is not treatment and cannot promise recovery. If gambling is affecting money, relationships, work or mental health, use the NHS and GamCare support routes. In an immediate emergency, call 999 or go to A&E.
