Bonus material terms and effective exposure
How restricted games and bonus contribution rates work
A headline wagering multiple is incomplete unless you also know which games are eligible and how much each stake contributes. This guide explains the terms, calculates fictional examples and shows what to save without recommending a game or wagering strategy.
The short answer
Contribution changes the qualifying stake, not the stated balance
If fictional terms say only 20 per cent of eligible stakes count, clearing a fictional £100 remaining wagering balance would require £500 of qualifying stakes. That represents greater exposure, not a target. Declining or stopping is the lower-risk option when the terms or effective stake are unclear or uncomfortable.

Do not infer one category from another. A zero-contribution game is not automatically prohibited, and a restricted game may have a separately stated consequence. Preserve the exact wording rather than replacing it with a typical industry percentage.
Calculate effective exposure without turning it into a target
For a positive contribution rate, divide the remaining wagering amount by the contribution percentage. These calculations use integer pence and basis points. Every amount and rate is fictional and independently reproducible.

- 20 per cent: £100 divided by 0.20 equals £500 of qualifying stakes.
- 40 per cent: £240 divided by 0.40 equals £600 of qualifying stakes.
- Zero per cent: stakes do not reduce the fictional £100 balance, so no finite qualifying stake follows.
Check every separate material term
- Wagering basis. Record whether the multiple applies to bonus, deposit and bonus, winnings or another amount.
- Maximum bet. Keep the stake restriction separate from contribution and check when it applies.
- Expiry. Record activation and completion deadlines without creating urgency.
- Balance treatment. Identify how deposit funds, bonus funds and winnings are described.
- Maximum conversion or win. Record any cap and the balance to which it applies.
- Sanction wording. Save the stated consequence of a restricted game or breached term.

If the terms change or a balance is disputed
Preserve the earlier and current terms, account ledger, game history, wagering display and relevant messages. Ask for the applicable version, classification, rate, affected rounds, arithmetic and written outcome without guessing which terms the operator used.

Keep UKGC promotion standards within their jurisdiction
UKGC and CMA material says significant promotion conditions must be clear in time for a consumer to decide whether to participate. UKGC material also describes the wagering cap that took effect for its licensees on 19 January 2026. Those rules must not be presented as protections automatically governing an offshore casino or overseas licence.
ASA and CAP guidance says significant conditions must be clear and prominent where omission is likely to mislead. This guide does not advertise an offer, display real operator terms or make a legal finding about a promotion.
Decline or stop when effective exposure is unclear
A lower contribution increases the qualifying stakes implied by the same remaining wagering amount. That is greater exposure, not a puzzle. Do not switch games, raise stakes, chase an expiry or deposit again to complete a promotion.
