Terms and pre-deposit checks
What to check in casino terms before you deposit
A casino headline cannot tell you who holds your money, what can delay a withdrawal or whether a complaint route is meaningful. Use this checklist before transferring money, accepting a bonus or submitting identity documents.
The short answer
Do not deposit until the important terms are identifiable and saved
Confirm the legal operator, exact domain, licence status, withdrawal rules, verification expectations, bonus restrictions, complaint route and account charges. Missing or contradictory information is a reason to stop or hold the decision, not an invitation to fill the gap with an assumption.
Use a stop, hold or continue-checking decision
Do not deposit
The operator or exact domain cannot be verified, the terms are unavailable, payment release requires another deposit, or gambling conflicts with self-exclusion or your safety.
Resolve the uncertainty first
A material term is vague, sources disagree, the complaint body cannot be confirmed, or support will not answer a specific written question.
Evidence is available
The checks are complete enough to assess, but this is not a safety guarantee, recommendation or prediction that a withdrawal will be paid.
1. Match the operator, domain and licence
Swipe sideways to see every column.
| Question | Evidence to save | Stop or hold signal |
|---|---|---|
| Who is the contracting business? | Legal name, company details and registered address from the terms. | Only a casino brand name is shown. |
| Is the exact domain covered? | Regulator record showing the website address and licence holder. | The number belongs to another operator or domain. |
| What is the current status? | Live register status, permitted activity and any published regulatory action. | A footer logo is the only evidence. |
| Which rules actually apply? | Regulator, jurisdiction and dated player terms. | British protection is claimed without a matching UKGC record. |
A UKGC licensee must provide its licensed status and can be checked against the public register. A casino licensed elsewhere may use a different register and provide different consumer protections. Follow our step-by-step licence verification guide rather than trusting a licence logo by itself.
2. Read every rule affecting deposits and withdrawals
- Deposits: minimum and maximum amounts, accepted currencies, fees, conversion rates and excluded methods.
- Withdrawals: minimum and maximum requests, processing stages, stated times, fees and payment-method restrictions.
- Limits: distinguish a per-transaction limit from a daily, weekly or monthly release limit.
- Cash versus bonus: check whether the account separates withdrawable cash from restricted funds.
- Cancellation: find out what happens if a withdrawal is reversed or a bonus is cancelled.
UKGC and CMA transparency standards provide a useful benchmark for British licensees, including restrictions on terms that limit access to a consumer's deposit balance. Those rules must not be assumed to apply offshore. Use our withdrawal and KYC guide to separate operator review, payment release and delivery time. If a term stages a larger balance, use the withdrawal limits worksheet to record the cap, reset window, fees and amount retained.
3. Check KYC and source-of-funds expectations
Read which identity, address, payment ownership and source-of-funds documents may be requested, when checks can occur and which secure channel receives them. Being outside GAMSTOP does not mean playing without verification.
- Identify the normal documents. Record the required format, date range and accepted proof.
- Check timing. Find out whether verification is required before play, before withdrawal or when a risk trigger occurs.
- Verify the upload route. Do not send documents to an unfamiliar social account or unverified address.
- Look for consequences. Read what happens while review is pending and whether a deadline is stated.
- Protect credentials. No legitimate document request should require your password, PIN, one-time code or full card security code.
Our withdrawal and KYC guide explains why checks can occur, how to handle documents and which delay signals deserve a written explanation. If the request distinguishes transaction funds from overall wealth, use the source of funds and source of wealth guide to preserve the exact purpose and scope safely.
4. Separate the bonus headline from the material terms
Record the minimum qualifying deposit, wagering multiplier and basis, time limit, maximum stake, game contribution, excluded payment methods, maximum win and the consequences of withdrawal or cancellation. Free spins also need a stake value, eligible game, expiry and winnings rule.
ASA guidance treats eligibility, deposit or wagering requirements and time limits as potentially significant conditions that should be clear and prominent in advertising. Full terms should be readily accessible. An affiliate headline is not a substitute for the current operator terms.
For a maximum-stake condition, use the bonus maximum-bet evidence worksheet to record the cap, balance state, stake components and term version before accepting the offer. Use the restricted-games and contribution guide when terms assign different eligibility or weighting to games. Use the maximum cashout and conversion guide when the terms cap the amount retained or converted from bonus play.
5. Find the complaint and redress route
Swipe sideways to see every column.
| Check | What you need to know | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Internal process | Formal contact, acknowledgement, stages and response times. | Only general chat support is available. |
| Independent route | Named ADR provider, regulator or dispute service and its scope. | The body or claimed membership cannot be verified. |
| Eligibility | Which disputes, values, deadlines and prior steps are accepted. | A logo is shown without a working procedure. |
| Possible outcome | Whether the body can decide a dispute, recommend action or only receive intelligence. | The route is described as stronger than its published powers. |
UKGC licensees must have complaint procedures and arrangements for eligible disputes to reach an ADR entity if unresolved within eight weeks. That route does not automatically apply to an offshore casino. Read our casino complaints guide before treating any regulator or dispute-service name as effective redress.
6. Check account, inactivity and customer-fund terms
- Inactivity: when an account becomes dormant, what charge can apply and how notice is given.
- Closure: when either side may close the account and how a remaining balance is handled.
- Customer funds: whether balances are segregated or protected if the operator becomes insolvent.
- Statements: how to obtain deposits, withdrawals, wagers, wins, adjustments and communications.
- Marketing: how consent can be changed and whether account closure stops promotional contact.
If an account is later closed while a balance or withdrawal remains unresolved, use the account-closure and balance record to preserve the status, balance treatment and reason request separately.
UKGC licensees must disclose their customer-fund protection rating in their terms. The Commission warns that gambling balances are not protected like personal bank accounts, and even segregation does not guarantee repayment after insolvency. Check the rule that applies to the actual operator rather than assuming an overseas licence offers the same categories. Our dormant-account and customer-funds guide separates fee, balance and insolvency evidence. Read the UKGC customer-funds guide for the current British categories and limitations.
7. Read governing law, jurisdiction and term-change clauses
Identify the law said to govern the contract, the named courts or dispute body, the language version that prevails and how important changes are communicated. Record whether the operator claims it can change terms retrospectively or cancel winnings using a broad discretionary clause.
A governing-law sentence does not prove that a regulator will handle an individual dispute or that a judgment will be easy to enforce. Where a significant amount or legal right is involved, obtain independent legal advice rather than relying on an affiliate explanation.
For the current British benchmark, read the UKGC fair and transparent terms guidance. Do not assume it governs an offshore contract.
8. Save a dated evidence set before transferring money
- Save the exact URL. Include the legal terms, withdrawal policy, bonus terms, complaint process and privacy notice.
- Record the date and time. Use the time zone shown by the operator where relevant.
- Capture material claims. Keep the offer, payout statement or protection claim beside the terms that qualify it.
- Keep the file readable. A screenshot should include enough page context to identify its source.
- Do not publish private information. Store personal and payment records securely and share only through a verified route.
If a dispute later occurs, the casino complaint evidence pack provides a privacy-safe chronology and evidence index.
What to do after the checklist
If any stop signal appears, do not deposit. If a material point remains uncertain, hold the decision and ask a specific written question. A completed checklist only means you have better information. It does not prove that a casino is safe, predict payment or remove the risk of losing money.
If the evidence is complete and you still intend to compare the currently reviewed options, return to the No GamStop Casinos comparison. That comparison remains a separate commercial journey. This checklist does not activate or endorse any affiliate destination.
