Bonus deadlines and evidence
What happens when a casino bonus expires?
An expiry can affect unused bonus funds, free spins or restricted winnings, but the result depends on the exact terms. First identify which clock applies, when it starts, its time zone and the stated consequence. Do not assume that an offer closing date is also your claim, activation, use or wagering deadline.
Direct answer
Expiry should be read as a sequence, not one countdown
Save the promotion and full terms that applied when you opted in. Record every stated deadline separately, copy the event that starts each clock and preserve its date, time and time zone. Then record what the terms say happens to each balance. If any part is missing or conflicting, keep it unresolved and ask a narrow written question rather than guessing or gambling faster.
Calculate only an explicit stated deadline
This tool adds a stated number of hours or 24-hour periods to an exact start instant, or converts a fixed end instant to UTC and Europe/London. It deliberately refuses dates and times that do not include Z or an explicit UTC offset. It does not decide which clock the operator intended, repair ambiguous terms or predict what an operator will do.

| Possible clock | Question to answer | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| Offer closing | When does the promotion stop accepting new participants? | That existing participants expire at the same instant. |
| Claim | How long after qualifying can the offer be claimed? | That qualifying automatically claims or activates it. |
| Activation | Is there a separate deadline to activate after claiming? | That the claim time starts every later clock. |
| Free-spin use | When are spins released, and when must each release be used? | That all batches share one expiry. |
| Wagering completion | Which named event starts the completion period? | That deposit, claim, activation and first use are interchangeable. |
| Restricted-balance expiry | Do the terms state a separate expiry for bonus funds or derived winnings? | That a disappearing balance proves which rule was applied. |

| Field | Record exactly | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Source | Promotion URL, full terms URL, saved copy or screenshot and version if shown. | Connects the calculation to the wording that applied. |
| Clock type | Offer close, claim, activation, use, wagering completion or restricted-balance expiry. | Prevents one deadline from silently replacing another. |
| Start event | The exact event and recorded timestamp that the terms name. | A duration cannot be calculated without both. |
| End expression | Duration or fixed date and time, including stated time zone or UTC offset. | A date alone does not identify an exact instant. |
| Account display | Bonus name, status, balances and any separate expiry shown in the account. | Shows what the system displayed without treating it as the terms. |
| Countdown | Screenshot, capture time and whether it agrees with the written deadline. | A moving countdown can be evidence of a conflict, not a replacement term. |
| Stated consequence | What the terms say happens to each named balance after expiry. | Prevents a general warning from becoming an invented forfeiture rule. |
Two fictional chronology checks
These examples are invented and independently tested. They demonstrate time arithmetic, not a real casino term, typical offer or expected outcome.
Fictional 72-hour activation clock
Saved wording: Complete the stated requirement within 72 hours of activation.
Clock start: Activation recorded at 14 February 2026, 18:15 UTC.
Normalised start: 2026-02-14T18:15:00.000Z (14 Feb 2026, 18:15:00 GMT in Europe/London).
Calculated end: 2026-02-17T18:15:00.000Z (17 Feb 2026, 18:15:00 GMT in Europe/London).
Fictional fixed deadline in another stated zone
Saved wording: Unused spins expire at 23:59 UTC+02:00 on 21 July 2026.
Clock start: The terms state a fixed end instant, so no start event is calculated.
Calculated end: 2026-07-21T21:59:00.000Z (21 Jul 2026, 22:59:00 BST in Europe/London).
Map the stated consequence to the correct balance

| Amount or item | Evidence to find | Safe record if unclear |
|---|---|---|
| Unused bonus funds | The clause naming the balance and the action at expiry. | Consequence not stated or not verified. |
| Unused free spins | Release schedule, use deadline and whether unused spins are removed. | Do not assign a cash value or extend the deadline. |
| Restricted winnings | The clause distinguishing bonus-derived winnings and any conversion state. | Do not call the amount cash or withdrawable. |
| Deposit balance | A separate cash ledger and the applicable withdrawal terms. | Do not treat the customer deposit as expired bonus money. |
| Deposit-derived winnings | Evidence separating play with cash from play with restricted funds. | Do not infer origin from one combined balance. |
The UK Gambling Commission says its licensees should let customers walk away with what remains of their deposit and winnings from play with that deposit, and should distinguish those amounts from restricted bonus funds. That is important UK consumer-protection context, but it is not proof that an offshore operator follows the same rules. Verify the operator, jurisdiction and applicable terms rather than presenting British protections as universal.
Preserve evidence before asking what happened
- Stop changing the record. Do not deposit, bet or activate another offer to test the balance.
- Save the before and after views. Capture the bonus status, cash balance, restricted balance, countdown and transaction history with timestamps.
- Keep the applicable terms. Preserve the promotion and full terms that applied when you opted in, not only the current public version.
- Write one narrow question. Ask which clause, clock-start event, deadline and balance classification produced the stated account change.
- Keep the reply with the chronology. A support message is evidence of the explanation given, not independent proof that the explanation is correct.
Question template: Please identify the promotion term and version applied to [offer name], the event and timestamp that started the relevant clock, the exact deadline with time zone, and the amount removed from each cash, deposit-derived, bonus and restricted-winnings balance.
Keep other bonus questions in their own guides

| Question | Use this guide | Boundary |
|---|---|---|
| What are the offer and wagering terms generally? | Bonus and wagering guide | This page calculates deadlines, not wagering turnover. |
| Was a stake above the permitted amount? | Maximum-bet guide | This page does not assess individual bets. |
| How much does a game contribute? | Game-contribution guide | This page does not calculate qualifying stake exposure. |
| What could a conversion or cashout cap remove? | Maximum-cashout guide | This page records an expiry consequence without calculating a cap. |
| Which terms should be checked before depositing? | Pre-deposit terms checklist | This page begins only after a specific deadline needs to be mapped. |
A deadline is not a reason to gamble faster
Expiry pressure can encourage rushed deposits, longer sessions or attempts to recover a restricted balance. Declining the offer, cancelling it where possible or leaving unused value to expire can be safer than trying to satisfy a clock. The worksheet is for evidence and decision clarity, not for beating a deadline or optimising gambling.

The editorial team reopened every controlling source on 14 October 2026. The sources support clear, accessible and prominent promotion conditions, including relevant time limits and closing dates. They do not establish one universal bonus clock, time zone or expiry consequence. The operator terms saved for the specific offer remain the factual source for those details. The next scheduled source and calculator check is 13 December 2026, with an earlier check after any relevant regulatory or code change. Submit corrections through our editorial corrections process.
